& ein paar Sponsoren
Jetzt ist ein halbes Jahr vergangen und wenn Ihr denkt, dass bei uns nichts los war liegt ihr aber ganz schön falsch. Die Reiseplanung schreitet voran, das Equipment wird gekauft und gebastelt und eine Testfahrt mit den „adventurised-ten“ CRF`s ins Baltikum unternommen. Ausserdem haben wir ein paar Sponsoren gefunden, die uns mit Material oder kleinen Einkaufsrabatten unterstützen.
Fangen wir mal mit dem Equipment an: Wir haben uns ja in den letzten Jahren versucht zu entkommerzialisieren, d.h. wir versuchen einfach möglichst wenig und nicht permanent Neues zu kaufen. Wie
schräg ist es dann, wenn fast täglich Pakete mit irgendwelchem Abenteuer Utensilien zu hause eintreffen. Ich bin schon ganz kirre im Kopf. Was kommt denn nu schon wieder?
Zum Hintergrund: wir haben uns gesagt, dass es Blödsinn ist, die Dinge die wir mit auf die Reise nehmen möchten, erst kurz vorher zu kaufen. Nein, der schlaue Weltreisende testet vorher, probiert
aus. Und zwar bei einer schönen Baltikumreise.
In unserem Fokus standen Veränderungen an den Motorädern, wie z.B. zwei Hyperpro Mono Federn, eine Plexiglasscheibe aus der Türkei und ein aus einem alten Schlauch gebastelter Handyhalter.
Natürlich ebenfalls die Packtaschen. Wichtig war uns auch zu sehen, wie der Trangia kocht, sich unser neues Zelt, Isomatten, Schlafsäcke und Inlays schlagen und ob wir überhaupt an alles gedacht
haben oder sogar zuviel in den minimalistischen (;-) ) 30 Liter Packtaschen transportieren.

Now half a year has passed and we were quite busy. The travel planning progresses, most parts of the equipment are bought and a test trip with the "adventurised" CRF's to the Baltic states is undertaken. In addition, we have found a few sponsors who support us with material or small shopping discounts.
Let's start with the equipment: In recent years we have tried to live with less commerce. We try to buy as little as possible and not permanently. How awkward it is when parcels arrive with their adventure paraphernalia at home almost every day. I am completely crazy in my head. What comes again?
The background: we have told ourselves that it is stupid to buy our stuff short before the world trip - it is bestter to test it before, trying out. Namely, on a beautiful Baltic trip.
In our focus were changes to the motorcycles, such as two Hyperpro Mono springs, a windscreen wich was imported from Turkey and a mobile phone holder made from an old hose. Of course also the panniers. It was also important to see how the Trangia cooks, our new tent, mattresses, sleeping bags and inlays works and whether we have ever thought of everything or even transport too much in the minimalist (;-)) 30 liter panniers.

Zusammenfassung: Ein toller Urlaub in Ländern mit einer fantastischen Natur und einem spannenden Umfeld. Geniales Wetter. Eine hervorragende Testfahrt und Ausrüstungscheck für die große Reise 2019.
Die Details dieser Reise werde ich in nächster Zeit auf dem motorrad-blogbuch.com beschreiben. Hier möchte ich erzählen, dass es ein wirklich toller Urlaub war. Prädesteniert für Menschen mit
Honda CRF250Ls. Ja, das „Little Red Pig“ hat sich auch mit 30 Kilo extra wirklich gut gemacht.
In den baltischen Staaten kann man ohne Stress durch die Landschaft tuckern: Viel Schotter, Wälder, Sandpisten, aber natürlich auch Asphalt. Alles nicht zu anspruchsvoll, aber oft überraschend
und häufig wirklich schön. Je nach Kondition und Stimmung kann man im gesamten Baltikum mehrmals täglich den Fahruntergrund und die Kulisse wechseln. Tolle Seen, freundliche Menschen, wenig
Verkehr, leckeres Essen – Wir sind Fans geworden. Klar, das durchgehend sonnige Wetter hat seinen Teil dazu beigetragen – bei Regen hätte es uns vermutlich nicht so gut gefallen.
Interessant ist natürlich auch die immer noch allgegenwärtige Sowjetgeschichte der Region, die sich u.a. in maroden Plattenbauten und verfallenen Militäranlagen in den Wäldern bemerkbar macht.
Wir sind häufig auf dem Transeurotrail.org gefahren – Hier finden sich zahllose interessante
und markante Strecken, die allerdings eher nicht für reine Strassenbikes geeignet scheinen.
Das Baltikum ist jedoch ebenfalls gut auf eigene Faust zu erkunden. Man muss auch wirklich sagen, dass Letten, Litauer und Esten sehr unterschiedliche Menschen zu sein scheinen – Dies sollte man
immer bedenken, wenn man vom Baltikum spricht: es sind drei unterschiedliche Länder!
Highlights: Vilnius mit seiner tollen Altstadt, Sigulda mit einer selbstbefahrbaren Bobbahn, der Südosten Estlands mit seinem Allgäu ähnlichen Charme und der Grenze zu Russland, die ganzen
wunderbaren und gut befahrbaren Waldstücke, die tollen Seen in die man durchgeschwitzt springen kann, um sich zu erfrischen u.v.m
Was wir allerdings auch wieder gemerkt haben: Motorrad Reisen ist anstrengend. Nach der ersten Woche dachte ich, dass ich die Weltreise absage, so kaputt war ich. Und das, obwohl wir jeden Tag
gegen 17:00 Uhr eine Unterkunft gesucht haben. In der zweiten Woche war aber alles wieder gut. Puh. Jetzt denken wir schon wieder, wie sollen wir nur so lange warten, bis es endlich losgeht...

Summary: A great holiday in countries with a fantastic nature and an exciting environment. Great weather. An excellent test drive and equipment check for the big trip in 2019.
I will describe the details of this trip in the near future on the motorbike-blogbuch.com (only available on german). Here I would like to tell that it was a really great holiday. Predestined for people with Honda CRF250Ls. Yes, the "Little Red Pig" has also done well with 30 kilos extra.
In the Baltic States, you can chug through the landscape without stress: lots of gravel, forests, sand tracks, but of course also asphalt. Not too demanding, but often surprising and often really nice. Depending on your condition and mood you can change the driving surface and the scenery several times a day throughout the Baltic States. Great lakes, friendly people, low traffic, delicious food - we have become fans. Of course, the consistently sunny weather has done its part - we probably would not have liked it so much in the rain.
Interestingly, of course, is the still incalculable Soviet history of the region, wich is shown -for example- in ailing prefabricated buildings and dilapidated military installations in the forests. We often drove on the Transeurotrail.org - Here you will find countless interesting and striking routes, which, however, do not seem suitable for pure street bikes.
However, the Baltic is also good to explore on your own. It must also be said that Latvians, Lithuanians and Estonians seem to be very different people - this should always be remembered when speaking of the Baltic States: there are three different countries!
Highlights: Vilnius with its great old town, Sigulda with a self-drive bobsleigh run, the southeast of Estonia with its Allgäu (Bavaria) similar charm and the border with Russia, all the wonderful and easy to drive woods, the great lakes in which you can jump through sweaty, to refresh yourself and so much more.
What we also noticed again: Motorcycle travel is exhausting. After the first week I thought that I would cancel the trip around the world, because I was so tired. Even though we searched for accommodation every day around 5:00 pm. But in the second week everything was fine again. Yeah!
Now we think again, how can we wait until the big journey starts ...
Equipment Test
Urlaub, Urlaub, Urlaub? - Wir waren hier um das Equipment zu testen! Nachdem wir uns monatelang informiert haben, wurde irgendwann gekauft. Das ist dann eine Mischung aus dem, was man über
Produkte und Marken weiß, dem Preis, den Erfahrungen anderer und dem eigenen Gefühl. Wir haben uns im Campingbereich für relativ viele Produkte der Firma Therm-a-rest
entschieden, die ja sehr vollmundig mit ihren Qualitäten wirbt. Auch wenn da viel Wahres dran ist, sind wir zwiegespalten. Unser Tranquility 4 Zelt ist toll und superschnell
aufzubauen, aber das Überzelt reicht nicht auf den Boden – ergo sind die Seitenwände oft Kondensat nass und feuchten die Schlafsäcke (Daune) mal so richtig schön an. Nicht gut!
Die Therm-a-rest Questar Daunenschlafsäcke sind eigentlich auch sehr gut, wobei ich in einer Nacht ziemlich geschwitzt habe und das Ding jetzt von innen leicht klebrig ist.
Kannte ich bis dato auch nicht. Anfragen bei Therm-a-rest werden übrigens scheinbar nicht beantwortet – ich warte schon 3 Wochen auf eine Reaktion. Umfangreiche Berichte zu unserem Equipment gibt
es, wenn die Zeit es erlaubt dann bald auf der Homepage.
Klasse auch der individuell für uns angefertigte Kofferträger von Tom (wer auch einen braucht kann uns gerne anmailen), der die Enduristan Taschen gut und sicher hielt, sogar
einige Stürze und Umfaller gut wegsteckte. Die Enduristan Taschen haben mir auch sehr gut gefallen, sind robust und sehen gut aus – Uta ist mit Ihren individuell umgebastelten Kriega Taschen auch
sehr zufrieden. Da kann ein Haken hinter.
Der Trangia Spirituskocher ist ebenfalls eine Superwahl. Es dauert zwar etwas länger, bis das Wasser kocht, aber wenn nicht auf einer Reise, wann sollte man dann
diese extra 5 Minuten Zeit haben?!
Zuverlässig, platzsparend, günstig – Uns gefällt`s!
Auch empfehlenswert: Unsere neuen Klim Traverse Jacken. Die sind wirklich wind- und wasserdicht, ausserdem leicht. Erwähnen muss ich allerdings, das sich doch einiges an Wasser
an meiner Regenhose vorbei unter die Klim gekämpft hat – Das war nervig, denn die Innentasche wurde nass. Hier muss noch eine Lösung gefunden werden. Definitiv überlegen wir auch einen
Reißverschluss einzunähen, um Hose und Jacke verbinden zu können.
Sumasumarum sind wir mit unserer Ausrüstung bis jetzt zufrieden und werden versuchen damit die Reise zu starten. Wie sagte ein Freund kürzlich so schön: „Früher hat man eine Weltumrundung in
'ner Jeans gemacht!“ - Da steckt viel Wahres drin.
Equipment check
Holiday, holiday, holiday? - We were here to test the equipment!
After we were well informed, we started buying the stuff we need for our RTW trip. This "buying orgy" is a mixture of what you know about products and brands, the price, the experiences of others and your own feelings. We decided to buy some stuff from Therm-a-rest, which are doing a lot of promotion with there quality. Even if there is a lot of truth, there are some reasoins why the products are not perfect for us. Our Tranquilty 4 tent is great and super fast to build on, but the over tent is not big enough - this causes some condensate on the sides of the tent - Result: wet sleeping bags (down). Not good!
The Therm-a-Rest Questar down sleeping bags are actually also very good, whereby I was sweating in one night and the result is now that the bag is slightly sticky from the inside. A new experience... Requests to Therm-a-rest are usually undefined - I've been waiting for a reaction for 3 weeks.
The special made racks have done very well and fit perfect for the Enduristan soft panniers. The Enduristan bags have also been very well liked, are sturdy and good looking - also very satisfied with Utas individually crafted Kriega bags.
The Trangia spirit stove is also a super choice. It takes a bit longer for the water to boil, but if not on a trip, when should you have that extra 5 minutes ?!
Reliable, space saving, low - we like it!
Also recommended: Our new Klim Traverse jackets. They are really wind and waterproof, exceptionally light. I must mention, that some water was climbing under my jacket - that was annoying, because adter that the inside pocket was wet. A solution must be found. Also we think about a zipper to connect thpants and the jacket.
All in all we are satisfied with our equipment so far and will start the journey with this stuff. As a friend said before : "In the past people made it around the world in a pair of jeans!" - There is a lot of truth in it.

Before the holiday we were on the Horizon Unlimited meeting in Pfrimmtal / Pfalz. That was really great! Lots of crazy travelers who talk about motorcycles, cookers, sleeping bags, countries and much more for a whole weekend. Amazing. Mad and crazy people everywhere!
